Roulette Guide & Information

History Of Roulette

Online Roulette at Omni CasinoThe origins of roulette are in France in the mid 1650's. The game was first played in the same way that it is today in a Paris casino before becoming very popular and spreading around Europe. It became the game of choice in Monaco, where the Prince used the game to fund his ailing war effort.

Roulette was brought to America in the 1800's and was given an extra number. Where the standard roulette game in Europe has only a single "0", the American game became popular for having a "0" and a "00" making a total of 38 numbers instead of 37.

The double 0 version of roulette is still known as American Roulette, while the single 0 version is known as European Roulette.

Roulette Rules

The rules of roulette are very simple. You place your bet on your chosen number, and if that number is spun, you win. There are some different bets that are available though.

Players can choose to bet on a single number (straight bet), two numbers (double bet), three numbers (row bet), four numbers (corner bet), five numbers (0, 00, 1, 2, 3 - only in American Roulette), 6 numbers (two adjacent rows), thirds (0-12, 13-14, 25-36), columns, odds/evens, high/low and red-black. Each of these has differing odds relating to their likelihood of winning.

Roulette Tips

  • Whenever possible, play European roulette. American roulette has around twice the house edge thanks to it's additional 00 on the table. This means that overall, your money will last longer playing European Roulette.
  • Try to make pre-determined bets rather then just going crazy placing chips all over the table.
  • Remember to ensure that you play betting limits that reflect your budget and your system. Roulette is one game that is very easy to get carried away with and does need strong attention.
